    Hi there,

Have a Bosch Exxell KGV32421GB Fridgefreezer and the fridge compartment is not cooling down.

Ok so it’s been in storage for a couple of years in the garage (safely stored upright) and it’s a bit old but it has been a good and well liked FF so if I can I want to keep it in my new kitchen.

Problem is that after turning it on for first time in a while the freezer cooled straightaway but the fridge would only go down to about 10degs. Also noticed that whilst trying to cool the top of the freezer compartment at the door seal was very hot. Ever since i’ve been looking around to see if I can find anyone who can offer a solution. Seems to be a common problem but could be a series of things from thermistor(?) to compressor to fan but all fixable since all these parts are replaceable at varying costs.

And that’s my issue. It is a relatively old model but since I like it is it worth fixing. Will the problem reoccur. Bearing in mind I will have to get someone round to confirm and fix it as well.

    Thanks for advice

Or, if the temperature is too low you may have one of the issues described here:

    Re: Fridge not cooling

Thanks for this but it was only stored in the garage and never turned on. Wheeled it into the nice ambient temperature of the house to start it up again after storage. So guessing this isn’t the problem. I think it is more likely that something broke in transit despite carefully wrapping the FF in a blanket and using a sack truck. Or classic lack of use for so long and suddenly ka-pow, it doesn’t work next time you turn it on. Could any part perish whilst stored?

    Thanks

Do you know if the freezer is actually getting to the correct temperature?

    It should average about -18?C.

    Re: Fridge not cooling

If the freezer is still cooling (early stages), it has most likely “dropped its gas” as most say. For a BOSCH, the temperature is usually -18 to -24 degrees.

Do you know if the fan in the fridge is running at all? If it has been transported, it could also be that the fan has seized or has been damaged.

    Re: Fridge not cooling

OK here’s the weird thing. on first turning it on after storage the freezer appeared to be working fine. Didn’t test the temp but my test was to put some of aunt bessies yorkshire puds in and see how they got on…they stayed crispy and icey! However, have restarted the unit today and the freezer isn’t cooling any more according to the temp gauge. Definitely not as cold as the other day for sure.

I also noticed that the top of the freezer unit is not getting hot now and also it doesn’t sound like anything is ‘kicking in’ when it needs to get cold, I guess this could be the fan giving up the ghost.

If it is the gas is this a resolvable problem or is it just not worth the hassle now given it’s age etc

Thanks all, finding this an interesting learning curve

    Re: Fridge not cooling

If it’s the refrigerant system then, as I keep saying to many, it’s a sealed system.

The only way the gas can come out is if there’s a hole allowing it to get out.

So, either faulty from new or, physical damage pretty much.

If the compressor was pumping weak (internal seals failed) then you could get this as well or, similar symptoms but it’s hard to say remotely.

In any event, you’re looking at over £100 to repair I’d imagine and, if the compressor is gone at least £150 or more.

Great, thanks for all the useful advice
Think after all that’s been said going to be better to get a new one
    Cheers
