Fridge not getting cold

Hi All,

I have a fridge which we cant find out what make it is, it dosnt say anywhere on it. We have a user manual and all it says is REFRIGERATOR W600 VENTILATED on its thats all. The fridge has been in the fitted kitchen for well over 8 years since i have lived here.

The problem is thats its not getting cold at all. Having taken the fridge out of the fitted units and looked at it, i left it off for a few hours then turned on again i noticed that the compressor (i assume its this black tub size of a sausepan where the refrigeration pipes seem to connect to) was very hot, after touching it for a second it almost burnt my hand ! Any ideas what would cause this to be so hot and the fridge not to get cold at all. The motor seems to be running ok on it, as you can hear it, its never been a quiet fridge.

Any ideas ?

Sounds like a classic compressor failure and, at that age, I can only advise that you replace it as it’s too old to be spending the best part of £200 on at least to replace it.
