ParticipantHello,
Make/Model: Zanussi ZK87/34EF (Frost Free).
About 6-8 weeks ago the freezer started forming large chunks of ice on the bottom floor (so much so that the drawers were getting stuck).
Last week the temperature alarm was constantly sounding and all the lights were flashing (manual indicates this as a ‘major fault’). So I switched off the machine completely to allow it to defrost – it was off for 2-3 days. During this time I also cleaned all the dust from the back and underneath from the coils.
Yesterday I switched it back on (turned the freezer down to 0(min coldness) and fridge up to 7 (max coldness)) and after about 3-4 hours of running the alarm was sounding again (no major fault indication this time round) and I confirmed that the fridge section was not cold.
During this stage I can hear 2 distinct sounds – I presume one is the fan and other is the compressor.
Oddly the freezer section seems to be cooling, although don’t know if it still has a problem with ice build-up.
A couple of years it developed a major fault where neither the fridge or freezer cooled – the compressor was replaced under warranty.
At the moment I’m not sure whether I should buy a new one or invest in repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Arvind

It’s hard to say really as quite a few things could be causing this to be honest.
As it’s a pretty expensive unit and not that old, I would recommend someone having a look to make a proper diagnosis, check the repairs@ link below 🙂

Did the problem with the Zanussi ZK87 fridge freezer ever get resolved?
😥 I have the same / similar problem with mine.
The cooling fan gets iced up and has to be freed off every couple of days to keep the fridge cold. It has been working ok for a couple of days and now has stopped again while I’ve been away for the weekend – does anyone have any thoughts on why the fan gets frozen so often? Also the defroster appears to be on regularly and we get ‘pools’ of ice in the freezer drawers. I am defrosting it fully today but am looking for any advice on fixing the problem.
thanks
