Fridge too warm on Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer

Hopfully someone here can help me. I have a Whirlpool fridge/freezer – model number ART 178/G/WP – I think the serial number is CA950817850.

The freezer seems to freeze things OK but has a problem with frosting up. The fridge is only getting down to about 9-10deg apart from a small spot on the back wall which sometimes gets a ball of ice forming on it.

I’ve defrosted the whole thing and left it for a couple of days, but this doesn’t seem to have made a difference.

The compressor seems to be humming away OK and getting warm, but I don’t really know where to start with checking anything else.
I am an electronics engineer so should have a pretty good grasp of the electrical side of things, but the back end of a fridge/freezer is a mystery to me.

Can anyone suggest where to start and where the relevant bits I should look for are on this model ?

Alternatively I would be interested to hear from anyone reputable in the Cardiff area who would expect to be able to fix this for significantly less than the cost of just replacing it.

Is the compressor running constantly ?

If it is fear you may have a system failure which would prove terminal I’m afraid.

Thanks for your fast reply.
I’ve kept an eye on it for the last week and I can’t say I’ve noticed the compressor switch off once.
From your reply I guess that means I’d be throwing money away trying to fix it or get it fixed.
Time to go shopping for a new fridge I suppose.
