ParticipantHi all, wondering if anyone can help. I have a Zanussi ZX79/5Si (928405921). About 15 years old now.
Last week the temperature warning alarm on my fridge started going off 2-3 times a day, and I noticed that the fridge started warming up ever so slightly.
This happened for 3-4 days, so I emptied the FF and left it off for 36 hours. I’ve turned the FF back on, and the freezer is getting cold, but the fridge remains warm.
I opened the inside of the Freezer to see if the evaporator was frozen, but that looked ok. I checked the NTC sensors with a multimeter and they seemed to be fine too.I’ve just replaced the Main PCB and re-powered the FF back on. The fridge remains warm (freezer is cold). Now the temperature warning alarm doesn’t even come on.
Has anyone come across this issue, and can offer any ideas as to what the issue maybe?
Thanks in advance.

is the compressor turning on and off
if its not then it could be a gas or compressor problem. ie its now lacking the power to get the temperature down
whats the temp in the freezer ?

Hi Dave, Thanks for replying. Yes I can hear the compressor switching on and off at random times. I remember checking the freezer this morning and it seemed to be quite cold. I’ll check the temperature of the freezer when I get home this evening and report back.
Thanks

this device controls the air into the fridge and is at the back of the fridge compartment

Hi Dave, I’ve opened up the back of the fridge and removed the flap-operated thermostat. I’m not quite sure what to check. If I twist the dial/rod, nothing happens. Should the flap open and close? There is very little movement in the flap-operated thermostat. Thanks

the flap open and closes stopping and starting the air from the freezer. if its closed no fridge
remove the flap as a temp and see how cold it gets

This range of products suffer very few system probs. Much more likely a failed defrost heater causing excessive ice build blocking the air flow to fridge. Sadly your pcb was never required. It will be either of the defrost heaters going o/c there are 2 on this mode one wound through the evaporator and one stuck underneath the evaporator housing. Check both of these for continuity, also fan failure occcurs on these. There are no cooling parts in the fridge all the cold for the appliance is made in the freezer and blown into the fridge. Probably a heater or fan failure. Hope this helps. Also there is history of the Ntc’s failing which cause excess ice build up stopping the air flow. If the ntc fails the 3 small buttons in between the dials would flash during normal operation

Thanks guys for all your advice and support. I’ve been struggling to get this unit working. I’ve already spent a few quid getting a new Thermostat and PCB. Now, based on all the help/advice above, it could be Fan, NTC’s or even the other Defrost heater. I’m sure one Defrost heater was already replaced under warranty. I guess I after 16 years of use, its time to purchase a new unit. I’ve been without a FF for almost 15 days now.
Once again, I must thank everyone who has advised on this forum. It was really appreciated.
Thanks again.
