I have a Fridgemaster freezer which is around 10 years old. Lately I have noticed the freezer is running a lot more frequently than previously and is getting warm on the sides. Any ideas what could be causing this? Does a freezer have a life span and should I be looking for a new freezer?

it will run a lot more in warmer weather

and the side must be where the condensor is to let out the heat

Don’t think this is due to the hot weather because it’s been like this for a few months. Could it be that the freezer needs regassing, if there is such a service?

It won’t need regassing and even if it did, at that age, it’d likely not be worth doing.

Why I say that is explained here:

One more question, the freezer is a frost free upright free standing.
Being a frost free freezer, when the freezer is auto defrosting does the freezer tend to run on for longer during the defrosting cycle?

well am not a fridge expert but i cant see sense in running the compressor which makes it freeze while your trying to melt the ice

When defrosting it shouldn’t be running at all, that’d be counter-productive.

It may run for an extended period after that’s done to get it back down to temp.
