A few weeks ago i discovered the on off button inside my Fridgemaster fridge freezer was at off, since then the fridge has not been working properly. the dial goes from 1 to 7 and is usually set at 3 and kept things suitably cool, the fridge will start to run if the dial is turned to 7 but after a while it stops running and even when dial turned down to 3 the fridge will not start running again unless the dial is switched back up to 7. any ideas what the problem could be before i call a repair man?

    Re: Fridgemaster Fridge freezer

It could be a thermostat fault but it’s more probably a system failure by the sounds of it as thermostats are either faulty or not in general.

Can you supply a model number? I do not know of a recent Fridgemaster model that has an On/Off switch.

The model number is MTRF226A. There is a dial that goes from 1 to 7 then beside that there is a switch with 1 0. Any help is much appreciated as not very technically minded but don’t want 2 go out spending money on a repair man or worse a new fridge freezer if not needed! Cheers guys.

The switch should only be in the On position if the appliance is being kept in a room where the ambient temperature is below 5C. In normal operation, especially during the summer months, the switch should be Off. It is more than likely that it will never need to be switched on.

When the thermostat is on 7 do you get an even frost layer on the rear wall of the fridge? If you do it is possibly a thermostat fault. If not then there could be system fault.

    Re: Fridgemaster Fridge freezer

Thanks for the reply Richard, I’ve just switched that button to the 0 I’ll leave it a bit and see what happens I just thought for some reason that turned the fridge and freezer off. When the dial is turned to 7 there is a layer of frost on the back of the fridge. I’ll keep an eye on it thanks for your comment It makes me think my fridge is not dead!! I Have been having a look on the internet and it looks like changing the thermostat is not such a huge job, is this right?
