ParticipantThe drawers on our Frigidaire freezer are very brittle & tend to crack easily. Replacement ones are at least £15 each & there are 6 so thats nearly cost of a new freezer! Anyone got any ideas for alternatives? ( Ive attempted to glue them several times using pvc pipe cement but they just break elsewhere as its the plastic thats at fault! ❓

No chance fixing broken/brittle plastic. Only solution is replacement I’m afraid.

says “Elite” on the front & has 7 shelves or drawers. Ive found the plastic drawer fronts ( which are all the same) on several websites ( these seem to be used on several different models) but they range from about £15 to £30!
I would reckon about £4 is a fair price for these!
What I was hoping for was any suggestions for adapting some other ( more reasonably priced!) drawer fronts to fit this machine!August 25, 2015 at 9:23 am #429785don

Hi
Everything made for appliances is model specific, attempting to adapt is a costly exercise leading to tears. Cosmetic parts on appliances are usually more expensive than functional parts as well. Not only that but Frigidaire is now no longer available which compounds the problem even further.
The model number can usually be found behind the top or bottom section on the side wall.

yep! same as cars! However Im determined to get something to stop all the food falling out when we open it as it works fine!( even if I have to make them out of plywood! :))
But unwilling to pay £100! If it was perfect & I tried to sell it Id be very lucky to get £50!August 25, 2015 at 11:36 am #429787kwatt

But if you had to buy a replacement with perfect drawers it’d cost a lot more than £50. 😉
Fridge and freezer plastics are almost always relationally expensive, always have been. I’d hazard that low use of them, high shipping and packaging costs and so on will all factor in leading to the cost that they tend to be.
It is very, very rare you’ll get a freezer drawer for less than about £15 or so, most will run £20-40 each with a number that are considerably more expensive, some of the US fridge freezer ones will cost you well in excess of £100.
You must use a non-porous material, you can’t use wood or it’d soak up moisture and lets just say, that won’t end well.
Use the incorrect size and damage the evaporator or the walls and your machine is scrap.

cheers for that! Im thinking of using some pvc cladding boards that are used for cladding on houses. Easily cut, light & non porous! looks arent important so prob just cut a slot for handle & a few small holes to cable tie to the baskets. Only to stop our food falling out every time we open the door!

PVC cladding sounds posher than bits of cardboard I’ve seen folks use in the past.
