ParticipantI have a Frigidaire RL6003B fridge, the compressor is continuosly running and the top half of the back of the fridge inside is iced up.It makes no difference what the temperature the fridge is set at.The drain hole at the back of the frige is clear and the water runs to the catch tray at the back.Could someone please give me a clue where to start,I am a qualified electrician so I am used to fault finding but I don’t have any working knowledge of how a fridge works. Thanks in advance for any assistance you good folks could give me.

Hi
It seems that you dont have full circulation of the refrigerant which means where the thermostat is attached to the evaperator which is sealed behined the internal plastic liner.
how long has this been happening ?
you could ask your local engineer to see if he will recharge the unit but make sure they dont use a line tap.

Participantbryan thankyou for your reply, this has been happening for about a week.Do you have an idea of cost to recharge the unit as I am disabled and living on benefits and price is a real issue.Thanks.

Hi fossy
Cost will vary dependent on where abouts in the country you are,put the question to your local engineer in repairs@ .

Our RL6003B has started doing exactly this, if we switch it off at the mains the motor stops, there’s a click a few seconds later, then a a few minutes afterwards the motor starts again.
I was thinking it might be a faulty thermostat, but after finding this thread it looks as though it isn’t.
For the time being I’ve connected the frig to a timer so it switches off for half an hour and then on for half an hour, so it’s not running continuously.
The big question is whether it’s worth repairing or better to get a replacement.
I’m in Cardiff.
Did FossyBear get his/hers fixed?

I would suggest in line with Bryan that you have a shortage of refrigerant. Bearing in mind the value of the product, I would be asking for an estimate for a recharge before you get anyone out.
