    hoover frost free fridge/freezer
approx 3 1/2 yrs old -given to me from an inlaw who got a new one- not because of this query, they got a new kitchen.

finally coped that frost free means no ice particles but the foodstuffs are not hard. bread is soft and i am afraid to keep any meats/fsh in it.
    there are no smells.

is this the characteristic of it that the food doesnt go rock hard?

No the food should be frozen hard and it sounds as is the machine is not cooling correctly. You really need to temp test it to be sure and find out what’s going on.

A normal one will do bu they are fairly innacurate on the whole, it needs to be -18C ideally, at least -15C though.

Freezer thermometers are available in various outlets from local Iceland stores to Currys branches even Lakeland Plastics (on their website).

A very handy thing to have sat in the freezer drawer for piece of mind 😉
