Frost Free or Non-Frost Free?

Hi

I am buying a new Fridge Freezer and have heard that frost-free models are unreliable, can anyone comment as to whether this is true or just a myth?

Having looked around at a few models, it seems that it is getting harder and harder to find non-frost free models!

Myth for the most part.

There’s just more to go wrong on a frost free.

Thanks Kwatt, I think I have found a couple of fridge freezers that we like the look of: Bosch KGV39VW30G or KGV33NW20G (both identical except the first one is taller). They both happen to be frost-free as we are happy to defrost occasionally and would prefer there be fewer things to go wrong (though no guarantees of course!)

Does anyone have any opinions on these models and Bosch in general? I can get the large one for £420 plus £57 bosch energy cashback and the smaller one for £316, which seem like good deals to me. Any opinions more than welcome.

Nice piece of kit the pair of them.

Incidentally, the other thing against frost free is that they tend to be running a lot more in order to maintain the temperature. Conventional freezers, provided you defrost them regularly and load them evenly of course, spend less time and energy maintaining their temperature. 😉
