The ancient Zanussi freezer in our garage has packed up. We’ve had it over 20 years and it was secondhand then so I can’t really complain, but what is best to replace it with? As far as I can see Beko seem to be the only manufacturer that claim their freezers work in cold environments but is that actually the case?
What I’m after is an upright about 140cm tall if possible. Don’t mind if it’s manual defrost and would probably actually prefer that as they are electrically much simpler and probably more reliable.

don you got any info on this ?

As far as I know you should not have much problem with a dedicated freezer outside. The main problem is with fridge freezers where the freezer is ccontrolled by the fridge temperature. These units can defrost the freezer if the outside temp stays around +1 degrees

the only other problem you may have is condensation. In the old days the thermostats were machanical so a bit of moisture was ok. These days of circuit boards mean water can be a killer

Beko are the best ones for garage use as they have their freezer guard which is good in cold environments down to -15 C.

Thanks both. We’ve just been given a Miele F12020 S-2 via Freecycle which seems like a nice bit of kit and according to its instructions is good down to -15c. It’s of course smaller than our old one but I wasn’t going to turn it down for free!
