ParticipantThe ignitor on our gas hob has taken to sparking intermittently by itself.
It’s very random – sometimes going for days without doing it and then just one or two sparks but equally I have come into the kitchen one morning to hear it sparking constantly.
If it does spark more than once I can usually stop it by re-pressing the normal ignition button. This would suggest that that it’s perhaps sticking or some sort of short within that button / switch(??).
I’ve tried giving the hob and switch a thorough cleaning with no success. Is there anyting else I can try?
The hob is a Whirlpool gas hob, the manual I have for it doesn’t give a model number but the label underneath the hob shows AKG 085/WP. There’s also a bar code service number which is 853508515050 and then 149412010943.
TIA

The switch and generator are all one part on this model at £37.95 plus carriage which is the likely part that needs replacing.
As this is a gas appliance I would recommend a Corgi engineer is called to check and carry out the relevent safety tests at the same time.
Try repairs@ below for one 🙂

many thanks Dave and thanks for the Repairs@ link. Unfortunately though it didn’t find anyone in the FK1 area.
Is it possible I can purchase the part online myself and then find a Corgi reg engineeer myself locally to fit it? TIA.

KeymasterHi Malcolm,
We need to see a CORGI certificate to sell the part I’m afraid, we won’t supply any spares that entail someone breaking into the gas supply without it I’m afraid.
Sorry, but not putting our customer’s at risk for us is of more value than the sale. Sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear but we don’t feel that you can put too high a value on people’s safety.
With a CORGI certificate there’s no problem.
If it’s any help my repair company (NWAR) covers the FK1 area and, if you’re really stuck,I’m sure that we can help you out.
K.
