Gas Hob not lighting easily – model number now shown!

I have had a gas hob for nearly 13 years. It is becoming more difficult to light with the automatic spark thing (and tends to go out more frequently). Any ideas on this? Is it a cleaning issue?

I will be replacing it within the next few months and was also looking for some guidance on what to look for in a new appliance.
