Gas oven cant turn off

I have a Whirlpool gas cooker, its old and I cant turn the knob to turn the oven off, it turns so far and then hits a stop. Help!!

dont know why it wont turn but you dont want to leave it on so you can do one of 2 things

1 turn all the gas off but i guess that would leave you without heating
2 if there is a flexible pipe feeding the cooker they normally can be disconnected. its a bayonet type of fitting. its self sealing so there will be no problem. after that you will either need to find a gas cooker engineer or replace the cooker

Ok, turned off gas, turned gas back on so I have heating. Oven went out and as far as Im aware, it stops pumping out gas as a safety feature, Im just looking for a bit of expert knowledge, in case Im wrong

some of the later ones do. you have to hold the knob in for 30 secs otherwise it just goes out again. if you cant smell gas you should be ok but beware of pushing the knob in by accident

You have to push the knob in and turn it to the temp, when you push the knob in you can hear the gas, if you let go, it stops.

Its an old cooker.

Is it easy to disconnect the cooker?

Had a customer with that issue on a Kenwood range, he’d left it lit and kept filling baking tray with water for 48 hrs. Bit too hot to work on when l arrived.

Well yeah, after l capped of the supply. I don’t do repairs, haven’t for yrs.
