KeymasterI don’t know wether this is the right place to post this but we will start here.
On a recent corgi gas inspection we were questioned on repairing appliances in stores. We were reminded that unless you could connect and appliance to a gas and electric supplier you were NOT allowed to repair an appliance in a store. In one way thsi does makes sense as how do you know the appliance is safe. You can are test the appliance, use your meters and so forth. Rightly or wrongly the Corgi inspector advised me that this was not good enough. No supplies no repairs. But the installer should make sure the appliance is gas safe. Yes he should be so should the repairer, they must be able to carry out all tests after completing the repair.
I spoke to Glen Dimplex and they confirmed this was right, so since we have not carried out any functional store repairs. UNTIL we have been requested by Servevast to repair an exchanged appliance in a store. I have refused. When asked why I advised them what I was told, they didn’t agree and asked me to go back to Corgi and get clarification. I did and was quoted clause 26.9 and advised again that we must not carry out repairs under these circumstances. Again I rang Servevast back, they were not happy and the first reaction I received was that I could either carry out the repair ( against Corgi’s advice) or loose my agency! I was then given a speall about pricing etc and did I want them to go out of business. Sorry but I need to work within the law.
It then became very interesting, If they had to pay full gas rates for their jobs to be done they would not be able to survive and the following I quote ” most of our agents or not Corgi registered they get the customer to disconnect the appliance from the gas, repair the appliance, and then get the customer to reconnect”. Sorry this is just taking the michael.
The correct rate has to be paid for the job so that correctly trained staff can carry out repairs within the current legislation. what appears to be taking placing must be bordering on the illegal?
I know Corgi put an awful lot onto the Domestic Appliance repaired but legislation is legislation and why should you be forced to break it and more importantly be forced into breaking the law to keep your work?

KeymasterRe: Gas….who should be working on it
An excellent post jp and one that should be talked about here……
BUT what is the correct rate for the job.And should we give a fuck if servast go out of business???
Of course we shouldn’t as they are the ones who should be relaying to the manufacturer that a gas call means an enhanced rate……
I reckon the true gas call rate is in the region of £68.00 per call + vat which whilst it does not pull up trees insures a fair rate for the investement the guys put in….
Stick to your guns and report Servevast to CORGI…PUT THE PRESSURE BACK THE OTHER WAY….we can all survive without their work and if they sink the work will resurface in a different guise..
They have to use us …theres no one else, think about it.

Be carefull, as they will obviousley denigh that the said conversation ever took place.
We are almost at the point of needing to record every conversation we have with WP’s.The best way to move this forward is to post it in the trade forums (without mentioning any names) Where the practice of getting customers to disconnect and reconnect a gas appliance after a repair by an unauthorised non Corgi registered agent as suggested and requested by some WP’s, would I feel sure, be roundly condemed by our members who should be encouraged to report any such requests to CORGI.
THIS WOULD SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF THEM AND MAKE THEM TOE THE LINE.
Regards as ever Del

KeymasterWhat have you spoken with Sue about the top of this thread and their practices?
No one has ever returned to me about the outstanding job. I wondered if the backup agent in the area has been asked to carry it out? I hope not they are Service Force and should know better. I dont know whether they watch the site or not though -
