General question about door lock delays

I’ve never quite grasped why there is a deliberate delay between the end of a wash cycle and the door lock being released. Can someone explain?

It doesn’t make sense to me because all motion has ceased and the drum is cold.

I’m sure there must be a good reason, I just can’t work out what it is :conf:

Door interlocks 😉

Some machines such as our ISE 10 have a solenoid operated door interlock which is more expensive but does open virtually as soon as the drum stops revolving, most use the bi metal type though.
