I’ve done two or three 9 rib belts without a problem.
I wonder if they might be actually easier to fit than the 7 rib…
Are they perhaps a weaker belt with more stretch and the extra width is to give a higher surface area to give a better friction for less tension???Bob

The one I fitted yesterday was tighter than the 7 ribbed belts IMHO.

WMA belt, cable tie.
Dryer belt, big screwdriver, don’t damage shaft!
Zan seal, love them in fairy.I hated the old ariston “2 part” door seal. obsolete now!
Still hate Candy dryers.Graeme

I have read somewhere else on the site… use the old belt to pull the new belt into place. What a fantastic idea. I will try that next time.

Hi folks
Think it must be me as I really struggle with vented drier with stretch belt, rear access through vent type.. even bought special tool but for the life of me can’t see how it makes life easier..
Only way I’ve managed to get belt on is to replace two screws on motor bracket with longer screws as this allows the motor to tilt closer to the drum and I can replace originals after when belt on and motor bracket screwed back.. struggle with one hand through vent hole and other via the unscrewed backplate and cabinate.. then with a long boxspanner work the belt over the motor pulley..
Question.. how do you use the special tool on these models?.. presumably the belt fits on the cupped end of the tool as there is a coller that stops it from going up the shaft but then there is no room between drum belt and motor shaft to use the tool to lever the belt on.. looks to me as if you need two hands to pull the belt down with great difficulty onto the motor shaft.. how do you guys do this through a vent tube that you can only get one hand through? 😕
No probs with getting belt on condenser or side off driers with my trusty box spanner.. more of a prob getting the condenser machines back together especialy the top of the fan chamber with the drum and new belt in position! :rolls:
Unless you can convince me otherwise I have felt special tool has been a waste of money..
Use the bag tie method on WMA but remove c/wieght first to stop ripping arms to shreds on rough edge and gives better access as well..
Warming the belt seems like a good tip though 🙂

Do it from the front, take the front panel off completely on the earlier TDL stretchy belt models, why struggle through the vent hole and rear panel 😕 . It doesn’t take long to remove it. I loosen the two front screws on the motor bracket and don’t find it a problem to refit. On the later vented dryers with removable side panels the special tool is different to the one you have, there is a picture on here somewhere but I have been unable to locate it ATM. It is a real doddle to do these.

Ahh.. didn’t know front panel came off.. sure it didn’t on earlier models and just been conditioned to do it from the back?.. No wonder I have been struggling 😳
Thanks Jim

Front panel comes off easily on most Hotpoint models. The one exception was the early Creda based TL range, does come off but not as easy, however belt change on that one is, upside down, small lower front panel off, prise front forward, slip belt round drum( easier with door open), fit round shaft & jockey pulleys, refit front. Take care not to dislodge wiring to front stat and make sure vent tube is reseated correctly. There are no Hotpoint dryers on which should be changing belts from the back . About five minutes of a job on a TL model. Always assuming that you do not have forearms like a gorilla of course. 😆

I take the right hand side panel off on all stretch belt jobs. It only involves removing the kick strip and facia to reveal the screws.
The ‘special’ hotpoint tool is no better in my opinion to my 13mm long reach socket. However, I believe that the idea is that you pull the belt over the cupped end of the tool, which, as you say, requires two hands.

side off for vented dryers turn the drum to allow the belt tool to rise into drum paddle piece of cake! as for ctd00 I’ve now tried out my homemade tool and Bobs junior hacksaw frame both work fine

That the one, fantastic for the later vented dryers, a child could fit a belt with that, almost no effort needed. 8)
