Come on guys you don’t have to buy one of these special tools, I made mine out of a piece of 1″ alloy tube that I had lying about, looks just like the Hotpoints but without the washer around the tube, this is great as you can slide the belt down the shaft (tube) onto the motor pulley. Right hand side panel removed first 😉

I have both the tube version of the special tool and the one in the picture above, believe me the long bar with the two hooks is ten times easier to use than the tube on vented dryers.

Looks Like it,s been through the shredder Jim 😆
I am making the current series of Mer/Hot tumble dryers No1 in the top top 10 of all time pieces of junk :rolls: I get several of these per week with damaged shafts/bearings, broken belts, drums rubbing against rear panels, great for work but I worry that the same faults will occur in a short period of time 😳
I wonder if the design team (early learning school) are pleased with there results of these dryers? they have got to go back to jockey pulleys 😉February 10, 2007 at 2:01 am #132524whizzkid

On stretchy models ie vtd00p etc
I use about 7 inches of 15mm copper tube, (just fits nicely over motor shaft), push through belt onto shaft, push down to stretch belt, roll drum round by hand (belt then slips off pipe onto shaft). – easy!February 10, 2007 at 2:08 am #132525helo_75

and yet a 13mm socket on an extensions the same thing?
i just use an old belt, wrap it round the new belt and pull it over
easy job when uve done a few

Please can someone explain to me what is the easiest way to change the belt on a Creda TVU1? Not the most ideal ‘first call on a Monday morning job’ for me I must admit. And it tried my patience to the enth degree at the very least. 😳 👿
Just in case I may attempt another one some day – perhaps?
Better still, can someone name names of those directly responsible for designing this heap of **!!??{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}** that I may bestow upon them my thoughts and recommendations on a more personal one to one, level, so to speak! :rolls:

ParticipantThe best way to fit a belt on the new vented dryers is to buy a woodworkers ratchet cramp and remove the end jaw, make a slot in the end then with the belt fitted on the drum with r/h side panel removed lay the machine on L/h side pass the end
of the cramp through the slots under the motor
fit the belt into the slot and tighten cramp the belt stretches down over motor pulley, belt fitted in 10 seconds Roy.March 12, 2007 at 11:01 pm #132528iadom

That belt is a doddle with the special tool from Hotpoint mentioned earlier in this thread, the one in Goatboys picture. Admittedly mine was not original but made for me by Hotdog, another forum member, belt change really is less than ten minutes from start to finish with this.

I use a old piece of copper pipe, slip it over the pulley to help lever the belt on.

I’ve taken your advice Jim and decided to invest in that special tool (5600266) in spite of its exorbitant pricetag. 🙁
I can’t imagine I could ever fit a belt in 10 mins as you say, but yesterday morning I was fuffin’ about for almost an hour!!
The problem I have is because the side panel has to be removed that renders the whole cabinet unstable. Next thing you know the ruddy drum slips out of the front nylon bearings and getting it back in against the elastic tension of the belt is a nightmare to impossible. Which means I have to take the belt off the motor pulley, re-locate the drum then struggle putting the belt back on. 😕
Yesterday morning I did that 3 times before I got the darn cabinet back together. The front panel fixings are a total joke on these and until all the screws are put into place the whole lot can easily fall to bits again. 👿
I had one in a hairdressing salon a few weeks back, I had to put extra self-tappers to hold the front panel in place. Those handfisted hairdressing trainees would yank the door open, pulling the panel forward so that the drum slipped off the bearing mounts….nightmare!! :rolls:
I’m sure to be back there soon enough but next time no doubt armed with my ‘special tool’ to show the girls… 8)

I agree with Jim – Did my first belt fitting with this tool on Saturday and I have to say, the special tool with the 2 pins is a breeze to use. A must for the toolkit! 10 – 15 mins for the whole job is quite possible. Anyway, a large tool with a rubber end and 2 extra bits is every man’s dream – go for it!!! 😀

‘Tumble Dryer Season’ has come very early this year and this week I’ve done 3 belt changes using the ‘special tool’ for the first time since I bought one back in March!
What a bl**dy doddle it is now, changing belts now is a breeze, oh yes! 😀
Fuffin’ around with bits of old pipe, iron bars and socket sets….I think not, not now anyway………….bring it on! 8)
