Our new Hoover Fridge-freezer has glass shelves in the freezer section. They sit below the pull out drawers but they don’t support the drawers. They run in their own slot about 5mm under the drawer slot. As they don’t support anything, I wondered if they are thermal partitions rather than shelves? The reason I ask is that there seems to be one glass shelf missing on mine, i.e. there are 3 slots under the shelves but only the bottom 2 have glass fitted. Hoover don’t seem to have a clue.

    Thanks.

Sorry, its the Hoover HMNB6182X5KN. I didn’t quote it before because it was really a generic question about the purpose of glass shelves/dividers in freezers.

The Hoover appliance parts explosion shows only two shelves in the freezer so that is correct. They probably use the same cabinet shell for other models. Looking at page ten of the instruction manual it is as I thought before looking, the shelves are there to act as spacers for air circulation.

I have to admnit the instructions are not the best worded example I have come across.

Don, thanks for that. You obviously have access to the “parts manual”, which I don’t but you said that page 10 of the “instructions manual” mentions the spacer function. I can’t find anything like that in the instruction manual that came with the appliance or the online version on Hoovers website.

It looks like there are several variants of your appliance.

The only difference I can find digging around is the “X” in the model number and the dropping of the N at the end by Hoover.

So what I did was to look at your model on Hoover breakdowns so I could see the set up and then look at “your” instructions which were not the best to say the least!!

I then dropped the X completeley from by investigations and came up with the set up your appliance has according to Hoover breakdowns. I have attached your machine with the “page 10” set up.

From what I can make out there are several different versions with similar numbers which are sold through different channels which makes our job a lot more challenging.

Hi Don, thanks once again for your helpful advice. The image you posted above does seem to show only 2 partitions in the freezer section but it also shows only 3 shelves in the fridge section when there are definitely 4 on mine. I read the manual from the link you gave and page 10 does explain the purpose of these partitions very well. However on page 11 of that manual it clearly shows the freezer section having 4 drawers and 3 partitions (item 10 on diagram) so I do seem to have one glass partition missing.

    It’s a minefield 🙁

Probably the version you have was produced exclusively for the big chains produced to fit a price point. As I say to my customers when this arises a snip snip here and a snip snip there….

If you Google your model number you will see that it’s all the big boys advertising it. You will need to ring Hoover direct with all of the information ie model serial number etc for them to investigate further but I believe what you have is correct.
