ParticipantHi,
getting a new kitchen and want to get a free standing cooker. With gas hob and double electirc oven, which is the best value for money. Dont want to spend much more than £400 really. My mum has a Stoves double oven which seems ok but I thought I’d better check as I dont want to buy a load of rubbish, as I know a lot are the same but just rebadged…
thanks!!!

I think the Leisure brand are good value for money and spares (when required) are readily available 😀 .

GregYoure recommending Beko 😮 …… still better than a front flued stoves gas oven though I suppose.

I am having the same problem myself. All I have seen up to now is pure rubbish. I would have recommended Creda but as you will from some of my earlier postings, I was horrified to discover it is a Merloni/Hotpoint in disguise & I have had nothing but bother with mine.
It seems there is no such thing as a decent cooker unless your loaded and can afford an Aga.

I had a quick look at cookers in that price bracket and, frankly, there wasn’t one I’d be particularly happy recommending and especially so with a double oven on them.
To get into even Smeg territory with the spec you’re up in the £6-700 mark.

Its a great shame really, the Leisure cookers made by the Aga group were the last decent “normal sized” cookers in my opinion.

K.Agreed nothing but garbage around now, I havent been impressed by a 60cm or smaller cooker for a good while now.

We normally stick with the Cannon range, I know WQ won`t be happy as they are part of Merloni too. But at least they are fairly reliable cooker albeit not as well made as they once were :rolls:

LOL! You make me sound like an Ogre! I am just very disappointed with my Creda Reflection Cooker. It is certainly nothing like my trusty Creda of old but I guess looking at the majority of the market now, its quick term profit before reliability. – My husband’s late father was the manager of the British Gas Showroom in Wallsend, and he swore by Cannon Gas Cookers. I wonder what he would have made of today’s ones? Again maybe I am just being fussy and want everything to last 20yrs…….(wishful thinking)

Having for the first time an electric oven I got a Homark with my kitchen, and it duly broke. I’ve never known a gas oven break, and i’ve known some old uns.
I’ve now got a Smeg 8 function oven, and love it to bits. It’s had one fan element (a common problem, apparently) and that’s all, gets used and abused, and cooks potato wedges faster than anything else i’ve ever used.
The bottom heat only is brill for making custard tart and quiche things, although I’ve never made a souffle or proper sponge in it.
And the roof comes out for cleaning. So does the door.
Italian Electrics being what they are (I’m an ex Alfa and Ducati owner) I’m sure it will break down some more. But it’s probably fixable and I do like the innovation Smeg apply to their appliances.
So, if you want one that won’t break down much, get a gas one, IMO, and if you want an electric one, you pays your money, you takes your chance.
I aspire to a B100-fuelled Aga, and will achieve this one day.
Till then, it’s my trusty Smeg.
