This time its the main pump motor. The thing hums and gets hot but doesn’t do what it was designed to do – rotate when called upon to do so. Rotor turns freely so it hasn’t seized. Is there any chance it is the capacitor and if so how do I test it please? I am used to the functions of capacitors in general electronics but have never really understood their usage for motor control.

    Thanks

If you are certain that the motor will turn freely (and has a circuit through it), you need one of THESE.

Capacitor function is to create a delay in the windings, thus causing the motor to spin in a fixed direction. A simplistic explanation is that it gives the motor a boot up the backside to set it off.

    Stay safe, power off.
