ModeratorI thought I’d put this one in as they keep appearing in the other forums but perhaps you have heard other rumours. The latest I have heard is that they (Gorenje) are about to start retailing their products through the CIH group. This as you will realise has really upset DAD who thought they had the sole uk distributionship. Further as stated earlier (in the CDSL area) they have been in negotiations with CDSL which will really put the cat amongst the pigeons with ISDAL if they get found out. DAD are coming back at them by matching price for price any deal that they offer the CIH group. Jamie Williams at DAD is livid about the position, he is well aware that in the main the independents through DAD have made the brand and that many of us do not work for CDSL and would drop the brand if we were to lose the service work. Neilan has buried his head in the sand and refuses to respond to my emails about CDSL – all rather smelly

There talks with CDSL are known about by ISDAL but they are under the impression that they are chasing Gorenje for the spares.
The tie in that Gorenje have with HI Group, storage, distribution, purchasing of the appliances ect I think that nealan would be on a few hot stones if the service went to CDSL.

Eeh Up Young Ian, welcome to the real world. The following you may have seen, I did post it in the ISDAL thread. I spent a few hours with Robert Gillman 2 weeks ago as we went to a meeting in Darlington C.Durham. As below as far as I can make out still prevails, but nothing surprises me. Adrian Gillman tends to do things his way, and things may have changed.
From the Horses mouth, by all means p.m. Ian Dales, but as he isn’t in this room, for now maybe not prudent to let on where and how you got this.
Built-in, D.A.D. don’t want to know, and have never dealt with Gorenje built-in.
Comet, Gorenje have alsways supplied direct to Comet a few refrigeration products, was 2 only, now going up to 4. Comet do their own service.
C.I.H. Dealers, now moving into sales of Gorenje, and there was talk regards H.I. Group carrying out the logistics. D.A.D. begged to differ on that one, (Polite way of saying someone at DAD told them they were not effing having it); and after consultation it was a greed that D.A.D. will remain the sole distributors.
So there we have it, and D.A.D. has just renewed the agreement/contract with Gorenje.

Well one thing’s for sure…
Bugger all is going to happen while Fisher and Ainscough are off on the sick.

No agreed but once the genie is out of the bottle many of the indies (like me) who don’t do work for CDSL may review their options and buy elsewhere. Oh what a lovely war :look:

Thing is Ian, they don’t care about you or a lot of small accounts as you’re just not important enough to be bothering with.
From a box shifter’s point of view you’re more trouble than you’re worth to service. It’s fine whilst they try to establish a name for themselves and build up a brand but, as soon as the lure of volume comes their way, they’ll drop you like a hot potato.
Just look at the history….
Hoover – All private agencies until volume came along
Zanussi – All independent , until CIH and Currys came a knocking
Candy – Ditto
AEG – Ditto, then bought by Lux
Fagor – Sameand the list goes on…
But what’s the one thing that all these have in common?

Agreed – what they seem to have missed is that the individual CIH members have the choice of what they buy. According to the Gorenje web page my local retailers (including the CIH superstore) are agents for Gorenje but to my certain knowledge non of them stock the brand. We on the other hand together with another indie some 30 miles away do. Now at 150 units a year we may be small fry but better sprats than an empty hook. Noteable is the manufacturers listed seem to have dropped their quality since they went public

Always lowering prices. :rolls:
Thing is they start chasing volume and eventually place the volume of sales above other considerations as they need that to keep the operation running. None are brave enough to tell the big retailers to go forth.
All the while they’re too busy with that to be bothered with the little guys that got them into the big retailers in the first place and, all too often, provided the support that gave them the name.
Sad, but that’s the way it is.

C.I.H. Dealers in my area don’t want to know about Gorenje, because the supply is not from their normal chain. I looks like they don’t want to buy from outside their group and therefore using DAD. They are a bit of an insular lot around here.

They do the same thing all over the country Alex as it’s the same here. It’s their own little club and that’ll be that.
When I was retailing proper I often thought about trying to set up a buying group but decided it wasn’t worth the hassle back then.

KeymasterI told you what they were up to and that it was only a matter of time before they chased volume sales like that. 😉
