ParticipantWe’ve just moved into a house that has a Gorenje RKI4254W (type: HZDI 2526) Fridge/Freezer, we put thermometers in the fridge and the freezer, the fridge usaully sits at around 8 degrees celsius even when the fridge is set to the coolest setting, the milk still feels quite cool but 8 degrees is a bit high. We’ve defrosted it for 24 hours to see whether that sorts it but no joy.
After defrosting the freezer we used the intensive cooling button and left it overnight, the freezer got down to -18 degrees celsius but the fridge is still only 8 degrees. Sometimes even before we defrosted the freezer the fridge would sometimes go down to around 1 to 2 degrees but didn’t stay like that.
We also cleaned out quite a bit of gunk from the pipe in the back of the fridge section that I think drains the condensation from the back wall of the fridge.
We not sure what is wrong with it as it still works, but just doesn’t seem to be getting cold enough. I saw the guy we bought the hosue from this morning and he said it worked fine when they had it and sometimes they would get ice in the fridge and it would freeze things in the fridge. Any help would be very much appreciated.December 29, 2013 at 5:01 pm #406848ELDAR59

Hello, how and where are you measuring the temperature?

We’re using a fridge thermometer placed on the middle shelf of the fridge in the centre, I read somewhere that they read better if immersed in water, so I did this yesterday after I posted my message, this morning the thermometer reads 5 degrees, I’ll continue monitoring it as when it wasn’t in water it did vary a bit.

Had the fridge set at 7 (the highest/coldest setting) for a while and the thermometer has been reading on average 6 degrees, yesterday I noticed that ice had formed on the back wall of the fridge compartment so i put it on the 6 setting, now it’s 8 degrees again and just condensation on the back wall

The temperature of the fridge is not reducing because there are some items which sustain below 5 degree, so the refrigeration system might be providing an average temperature as compared to freezer. You should also check the compressor as well.

Hello, the fridge has what’s known as a wet wall evaporator. This means that the back wall in the fridge will either be wet or frosted at varying intervals, depending upon which part of the cycle that the appliance is on when you open the door.
The symptoms as described are not entirely clear and so I think it would be better for you to call an engineer.
Yours is a fairly simple appliance and so the fault will either be with the thermostat or the refrigeration system itself. An engineer would be able to tell you.January 8, 2014 at 9:26 am #406854TRBob
