Tribal UK, an online electricals dealer, is flogging a Hotpoint (Hotperloni I assume) WF865A “Aluminium” (painted :roll:) washer as shown here…

It’s their top seller at £370. But look at the price of the warranty on it, mental! The warranty costs more than 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the price of the goods which can only, to me, indicate one of two things;
1. The retailer is coining it on the warranty to support the sales price.
2. The machine is cr4p and breaks a lot, so it’s a high risk and/or expensive to put right.
Staggers me this does, I mean if the same ratio was to be applied to other products, such as furniture or cars they’d never have a prayer of flogging a warranty with the product. I’m amazed that extended warranties are as popular as they seem to be if this is the sort of prices that customers are getting hit with.
But there again, insurance is a risk and numbers game and as the quality reduces and breakdowns increase then premiums have to rise. Given the current trends for cheap rubbish poorly built I wonder how long that the insurance of domestic appliances will continue, can it be supported by silly deals like this one?
