I just use normal high melting point grease as used on car wheel bearings but IKBA.

I use petroleum jelly, Vaseline etc. It’s cheap easily available from the local shop and I have never had any trouble with it. I also use it to put on the suspension leg pins for ease of dismantliong and installing.

    Regards.

I don’t see a problem with peg removal, I grip the end tight with mole grips, depress the lug with a terminal screwdriver and they pull out very easily, a tap with a small hammer is all that is needed to replace, always fit new ones though, don’t be tempted to reuse the old ones or they will come adrift.

I can think of much better uses for Vaseline 😉

Oooooo! Why didn’t I think of that? Bearing Seal + Vaseline (that’s a great water repellent and lubricant in one!)….nice one 😀

On the Zanussis and Hotpoints I use a 13mm ring spanner over the pointy end of the peg, that pushes in the lug enough to pull the peg out without bending it in enough to damage the lug. I’ve never fitted new ones and never had one come loose.

I personally use bike chain grease!….good bike shops sell it in small tubs, it’s the waterproof white grease often used in factory assembly (molybdenum grease i think?)

I don’t use any grease at all as It seems to me that the wma seal should be firmly fixed to the shaft and does not rotate inside it – the actual seal is inside the metal housing of the seal.

wma seal is ……well…….sealed. it needs to fit tightly on to the shaft to creat a watertight fit. the rotating seal is inside the metal part.
as for other types of seal (oil seal type) vasaline or better still zanussi seal lub,Ill look up the number if you want.

Silicone grease on connect part no sg2 excellent and if any goes on the drum then to clothes hard to spot. You dont get the blame for black grease after bearing change I also use the zanussi lube on all the bearing changes

    Yes please Wilf
    Thanks

The use of grease is to stop any damage to the seal on assembly and initial start-up, dry metal dry seal etc.
