    Hi,
A bit of a mystery fault with my grill on Hotpoint DHS53CXS Double integrated oven.

When I turn the grill on, the top fan turns on, but the element stays cold, and the panel light doesn’t turn on.

I assumed it was the element, ordered and fitted a new one. It didn’t work. If I’d have thought to check the top oven I’d have realised it wasn’t the element, because top oven is still working, and uses same element!

Never mind, must be the regulator I figured. Ordered and fitted new regulator (C00270067). Still the element stays cold.

A bit of research tells me the termal cut out is the next likely suspect. This time I test the part before ordering a new one. Set the multimeter to lowest resistance setting (200 ohms), and sure enough I get no reading on it. So I order a new 65 degree thermal cut out (C00199503). I fit it. Still the element remains cold!

So I double check the new thermal cut out, and wierdly, I’m not getting a reading on this either with the multimeter. Am I really this unlucky that I got sent a faulty thermal cut out?!

Before ordering another one, I thought maybe I could test by bypassing the cut out? So I change the wires over so I’m running it through the adjacent thermal cut out which I think is for the top oven, and configured to higher temp (at this point I’m a bit out of my depth to be honest). This time, the top fan turns on before I’ve even flicked the grill on. But then I turn the grill on, and still no heat in the element.

I’m out of ideas now. Do I order a new thermal cut out? Or is there something else I can test?

    Many thanks

thats not a thermal cutout its the fan control stat to keep fan running as things cool

some units have a door switch that stops the grill working with the door closed. these can go faulty and stop grill working. If yours has this fitted
