Grill not glowing

I have bought a double oven from Ikea which I believe comes from Electrolux. Both ovens have a grill which consists of 2 elements – an outer that goes round the perimeter and an inner that fills in the middle. In the bottom oven both elements glow bright red but in the top oven only the perimeter glows and the inner element although hot does not glow. Ikea say this is normal – I expect a grill to glow red – am I wrong?

Perfectly normal I’m afraid, not all grills are infra red.

The Ikea/Electrolux ovens do use infrared grill elements but they don’t necessarily need to glow red in order to be affective. So it is indeed perfectly normal.

If you were to dim the lights and look again you would no doubt see a faint glow anyway. 😉

hi im new to the site don’t know if ive posted in the right place but here goes, i have a canon chichester gas cooker, for some reason the grill will not light, i can hear and smell the gas and see the spark when trying to light but only occasionally will it flame everything else work fine can anybody please help ?

No not the right thread as that relates to an electric oven. It would be more relevant had you posted a separate thread as it is gas.

But smell of gas, spark no light is a dangerous situation you have there. The best suggestion therefore is to seek local help from a Gas Safe registered engineer. This is NOT a DIY fix I would further venture to suggest.
