ParticipantHi all,
I recently bought a Grundig Frost Free Fridge Freezer (model GKN16820W) and I am generally very happy with it.
However, I have noticed that the fridge temperature is not going down to that selected on the control panel (2 degrees). I have 2 fridge thermometers (different makes) that confirm this. They are showing the temperature at 5 degrees at most times, but they do swing down to 3.5 / 4.0 at times during the compressor cycle, but never 2 degrees!
Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but I am a typical bloke and like my larger extra cold so this matters 🙁
It is under warranty and an ‘engineer’ has been out to look at it but to be honest I didn’t think he had much of a clue. He didn’t have any testing tools with him and just said that the fan needed replacing after a brief look inside. The fan isn’t making any distressing sounds and he did say it came on so how can it be that? I would have thought that if anything it would be the temperature sensor?
If I press the fast cool button the compressor cycle does comes on but the temperature still never gets down to 2 degrees.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received 😀 😀

The only way to get a accurate temperature for the fridge is to get the temperature of the product.
You need to leave a cup of water in the fridge for 24 hours then take the temperature of the water.
You also need an electronic thermometer that has been calibrated as accurate.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply and after your advice went out and bought an electronic thermometer from Amazon.

I realise it might not be calibrated accurate but I would hope it can give a good representation of the mean fridge temperature.
I measured the temperature of a Stella larger (still in bottle after 48 hours in fridge) and it was 3.2 degrees. After pouring into a glass this rises to 5.0 degrees as expected.
So fridge set at 2 degrees, mean temperature 3.2 degrees.
Is this an acceptable difference or am I within my rights to try and get this repaired?
PS I have also bought a temperature sensor for them to fit (this one might be more accurate??)

For a domestic fridge, that’s not at all bad. One or two degrees variation is pretty normal and largely expected on normal domestic units. The only way you’d get more accurate stability is with zoned areas, meat chillers etc.
I very much doubt you’ll get much better regardless of what you do.

Have the plastic spacers been fitted onto the condenser at rear to provide adequate ventilation/airflow at rear, if there is not proper ventilation it may not run as well as it could.
Take a temperature reading at bottom of fridge and see what it reads, you may find its below 2 degrees, and if you take a temperature at top & its 3 then ave’ temp could be closer to 2 than you suspect. -
