    Hello kind forum helpers
My GW708 won’t drain before spin.
After reading the sticky I did the diagnostic and got error code 00101000 = code 40 I think. From other messages in this forum I know this may not be good news…. I have a funny feeling there is a sock stuck somewhere – only 1 came out! I think it might be between the inner and outer bowls – not sure how to pull out the inner bowl though.

Also, if it is the pump which has a blockage, is there an easy way to drain the water first? eg another drain plug or something. I don’t have a siphon hose. I think the pump is getting power, it’s getting warm and trying to turn.
Any advice would be great – cheers

The sock will be jamming the pump impellor…… The pump is a twist fit, so removing it is pretty straight forward. You will need to get rid of the water first though.

Be warned that the pump is live as long as the machine is plugged in

Spot on Penguin45 thanks for your advice. Machine is working again!

I found the easiest way to drain the machine was to tip it back to get the last bits out scooping it with a cup – not sure if there’s another way but i was reluctant to put it in its side in case this did something to the mechanics. even so I was surprised by the amount of water which came out when I untwisted the pump. This water I suppose was in between the inner and outer bowls. I found I had to disconnect the pump wires in order to have enough play to twist the pump off. OBVIOUSLY I HAD DISCONNECTED THE POWER FIRST DON’T WORRY PENGUIN. However because of the water coming out I checked the flying leads connectors for moisture before I reconnected them. I did all this through the access hole on the front – not sure if its the best way but it worked for me.

Hurrah for Soviet Republic of Yorkshire and all who inhabit it!
