ParticipantHi Folks
Went to this 6 weeks ago with earth fault on heater – cleaned out little drain hole in float chamber and dried off heater – checked with cupfull of water in back of condenser housing to make sure all clear and pump working ok – all fine.
Had to go back again today same fault tripping ELCB.
Earth fault back on heater and looks like water getting into fan chamber again – checked drain hole/back of condenser housing all clear plus tried with cupfull of water at back of condenser housing – going straight down and pumping out so I am a bit baffled why the fan housing looks like water is getting in there again.
Has anybody come across anything else other than a blocked drainage hole that would cause this problem? or could this just be straight forward breakdown in the heater insulation? Could a intermitent pump prob cause this as I have had to change several pumps on these H/P machines but they had packed up completly.
This is in a hairdressers shop the only other thought was that wet towels get left in there overnight and it is condensation but this has only just started to happen. Shop owner said this might happen but not all the time.
Also the condser unit was quite wet when i took it out but was reasonably clean.
Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated as always.
Mick

It is usually down to the channel being blocked, the later heater assembly is supposed to have a mod to stop this problem.

Thanks for the reply Jim
Not sure what the difference is between early and late heater asy so think I will order new heater unit and see how that goes.
Any other thoughts anybody?
Thanks

Been back to this today and fitted new heater – I couldn’t see any differece between the old and new heater asy so I’m not sure what the mod is that Hotpoint have done to these Heaters? – but did notice quite a build up of crud on the one side of the heater where presumably the fan had been flippin the water.
Looks like there might be still some soap left in the towels that they have washed and it had built up before the drain hole was cleared last time. Presumably when it has got damp through condensation it has absorbed the moisture and gone down to earth again?
Anyway – new heater fitted and checked/cleaned and reflushed float chamber/condenser housing and drain hole and hopefully problems solved.
Would have been nice to see if anyone else had repetitive problems with this and what they found?
Thanks
Mick

Thanks for the info Jim – only just checked e-mail.
Good possibility that it might be lack of filter cleaning as it is shop girls who opperate machine – have mentioned it is important to keep filter and condenser clean and although both looked as if they had just been cleaned got a load of fluff out of filter housing suggesting that they might not be cleaned all that often. Filter was undamaged.
Thanks for the help

Did have one causing me problems, not sure if connected but found something caught in the front fan. Could be a poor flow of cool air making it condense on the back panel
All the others have been cured with the normal pump / clean out you have already done.

Leaving damp washing sitting in the drum without starting the machine can cause severe condensation on the ele assembly & tripping i have found.
