..who uses Google Adwords for repairs?

    I’m asking because:

    a. You might be missing the free route/s that Ally has gone into in depth for the WTA members, not sure if it’s in general.

    b. Some of the ads are just so staggeringly bad it’s unreal and you might need help with targeting them better.

Fess up. It could save you a small fortune.

I do my own adwords, probably could do with some expert guidance on it.

    Re: Hands Up…

Well, just as an example here’s a typical Adwords ad block…

Ignore the Currys advert, the third one down.

The first one is The Repair Centre based in Larkhall.

The second is BG Technical Services in Ayrshire.

The fourth is BSC Repairs in Birmingham.

What that shows is that whilst Google actually does make a reasonable hash out of trying to figure out where I am. Trouble is it was only really 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} right, Larkhall is in the darkest depths of Lanarkshire, nowhere close to me really. The last result is just way off the mark.

What many think is happening is that Google displays advertisers near the user then just displays at random the rest, effectively un-targeted and seemingly at random. Remember Google are trying to sell advertising space and generate revenue from clicks so just fills the void.

Now, if you don’t give something to the user to tell them where you are or cover, as the three examples above show, then you are bound to get false click throughs that will cost you money from people that won’t use you. Probably because they are several hundred miles away.

I noticed this with the NW site, for which I do not use Adwords at all but we do see a number of requests and get calls from all over the UK looking for repairers. As is often the case, people don’t actually read the whole page, only the bits that they want and assume that every website offers national cover. There are a lot of very stupid people allowed to roam free in the UK.

Somewhere in your adverts I’d mention the area you operate in somehow as it could save you a number of false clicks and hence, cash.

Create different adverts for different areas, you can create as many as you like on Google.

IMO, being lazy about it will directly cost you money in wasted clicks from people that can’t use your local services or, that your ads get badly targeted which means that you wasted your time as well as possibly your money.

    Re: Hands Up…

I use Adwords express? It narrows the search area to your locality anyway and uses the relevence of your google+ page so any review stars show up in your add so most times when there running it goes straight to the top.

I don’t pretend to know how it works though as i’m a net spanner but i’ve been really suprised what a diffrence it makes to the phones and email and increase in jobs.

    Re: Hands Up…

you can set your adds to be geographical ie set it to cover 20 miles from your base .. this is done in the set up page ..

you can also call google , think their call center is in Ireland
all take s time/effort but worth it ..

i done a little experiment at the weekend which included doing a free of charge advert which appeared on page one google top slot within 20 minutes of doing ..
very very effective ..and all above board
blows the ppc right out the window for me anyway

have mentioned this b4 but there were no takers ..
