Went over to AWI today and found a guy in the workshop. He was fairly tight lipped and all he would say was that AWI was in “suspended trading” and mail shots will be going out in the next few days. If you have any questions to put to him I will have a go Monday.

Doesn’t sound good.It would be a shame to loose AWI as a supplier, Tech support first class, excellent prices and I can’t remember ever having a problem with an order (which is more than I can say for some suppliers).
I guess it’s a sign of the times, and microwave ovens become throwaway. Microwave ovens are so cheap to buy the only ones worth repairing nowadays are integrated and commercial.

It would be a real shame to loose AWI, they were great for supplying alot of commercial microwave spares at great prices too.

I think they will be back. They have registered a new ltd company as AWI Microwaves ltd on the 4th of this month, so my guess is they have internal strife maybe – but the formation of a new company is a positive sign 😆

I know its a little off topic but in Morrisons today they had microwaves at only £15! Cheapest I have ever seen. Saw two of them going through the checkouts same time as us.

I don’t think Connect do get their mags from AWI, I was speaking to a senior figure at Connect today, and the comment was ‘who are AWI’?

Alot of the magnetrons that came from AWI were available from Connect. If you put the AWI part number in connections it would be recognised and arrived in AWI packaging.

Oh, well I guess they must have then, I only had Panasonic and Sharp mags in the main – odd that one of their accounts team hadn’t heard of them though!

Update on this thread.
Recieved a letter this morning from a company that has set up a new business called Magsells, 7 Hyde Road, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, PO37 7JZ, 0844 809 4510. Web ww.magsells.com (third w ommitted for obvious reasons 😉 ) which is not yet up and running.
They are able to supply most items that AWI used to do.
Whether it is the same owners I don’t know, a check at companies house if anyone wants or needs to know.

Yep new company registered on 11/11/2010
registered office is 145-157 St John Street London. which is same as a firm of accountants that specialise in the formation of new companies.Hopefully, the new company will do all that AWI did!!!

spoke to them to day even placed an order and YES it is AWI in disguise new address, new phone numbers, same vat number, same people working there NICE TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN

Had a letter from a company called MAGSELLS (also on Isle of White) http://www.magsells.com this morning, they have taken on AWI’s sales ledger and can supply the usual parts by the sounds of it. Lets hope some of the AWI staff are there for the usual tech knowlege etc.
