ParticipantGot a call to look at a hotpoint w/m tomorrow ..not filling with water..
Then a call a couple of hours a go saying not to bother only husband’s found a book on Internet and is going to have a go himself plus will help him if owt else goes wrong later on ๐ฏ Just before she hangs up i ask her what book is it by the way ( thinking i wonder if it’s the ol haynes one ) nope she says wait a min i have the name on my desk ,she then comes back and says this http://www.2ndwave.co.uk/manual.html
I then say well i hope it shows how to safely test your machine and that her hubby will not have the correct test equipment that an engineer uses ( obviously i did not tell her what we use to test ) but she was happy to pay the 19.95 for the book and let hubby play about..
Typed in the address she gave and looked at the site but not much info about who runs it.just wondered if this has been mentioned on here before .. Internet can be a good and bad thing sometimes ๐
Wonder if she calls back once hubby messes about and does not locate the correct fault ๐ or he might get lucky ๐ฎ

‘The average washing machine will need 3 replacement rubber door seals over its lifetime – Thatโs ยฃ300 you could save by doing the job yourself – enough to buy a new machine! ‘
I wish !!! not any more 15+ yrs ago maybeThe whole thing seems to be based on machines built like 18+ yrs ago, hoover aramtures, crouzet timers, thermostats, what looks like a philco/benidx induction motor. possible a philips/wpool enamled back plate and bearings?
Some person stuck in a time warp looks like to me lol

That’s a coincidence. I came across the same site the other day when surfing around for camcorder repair info. (Maybe I need better training on using a search engine ๐ ) I thought the info. about who it was looked a bit hidden but I did think the diagrams looked quite well drawn despite some of them being older models. I clocked all the same warning signs as have already been mentioned and bookmarked it thinking about posting it here for comments. The fact that two of us found it suggests it might be getting some traffic.

Sadly I haven’t got ยฃ19.95 to spare right now to get my hands on this seemingly all singing, all dancing publication. Especially as I am intrigued over this statement : –

Now, I wonder if they have ‘stolen’ almost word for word the vital error codes from the UKW Bible? ๐
Graham Dixon’s book is on Amazon for about ยฃ4 so I might save up and take a punt on that some day soon…but which is best? ๐

If you go to DIYnot.com/appliances, you will find one poster, username rocks1, who has copied and pasted loads of direct lifts from the error codes thread and passed them off as his own work. ๐

* Paying out on breakdown insurance? The service companies know that a new washing machine will give 5 years trouble free service – thats ยฃ500 to ยฃ700 you could be paying for nothing.
apart from Miele what other new machines are they talking about?
they also say that if you read the book from cover to cover you can also
earn ยฃ100k a year like the rest of us qualified engineers.if this book hits the local libary and you notice a drop in work dont think
its because your customers are doing their own repairs its because they are dead or seriously injured.August 23, 2010 at 11:17 pm #328558subs

No DIY book has ever put a builder, plumber, plasterer etc out of bussines. So there is nothing to fear here.
What i don’t like about it is the way it portrays all service companies as rip off merchants. Like the bit about being told the motors knackered when its just the brushes and a replacement motor is ยฃ200. It says even if it was the motor we can supply you with companies that will supply you with a new one for about ยฃ50. Anyone bought a new motor for ยฃ50 lately?
The book will also show you how to strip a machine down and give you tips that the pro’s use to remove bearings without special tools…..yeah, its called blood sweat tears and a fair bit of elbow grease too!Subs

Martin i thought the same as you regarding the UKW bible , i might get it just to see if they have ripped off the bible from this site ? trouble is i am actually keeping them in business though ๐ฟ if they have then it’s not on and they should be closed down from the net .I also think it’s sad when some one actually insinuates that all engineers are rip off merchants ๐

A thought. Is it possible that this site might have been infiltrated by someone outside the trade who has a penchant for writing and selling manuals?
I think I’ll strengthen my password.
