Recently I was contacted by an old friend regarding her dryer belt on a hotpoint TL61.
As she is a single parent and I always get the sob story I gave her an estimate over the phone and reduced the charge to not much more than a favour.
On the day in question she sent me a text cancelling, not the end of the world as I wasnt making on it anyway.
Sometime later I got another text, can you help. Fitted belt and still not right. (her and her friend).
I ignored first couple of messages until she got desperate as I wasnt feeling so charitable anymore.
She has researched the internet until she had decided she had enough knowledge to do this simple task. Great.

I looked at this on saturday. On removing the front panel to refit the wiring, found the timer is out of sync by about 20 deg and doesnt turn off. Then suddenly I realised something is missing.
Where is the air duct? She tells me its in the shed, couldnt refit it.
and put it in the shed.
She made a complete mess of this simple job and its cost her a lot more than it should.
Not sure if she has been on this site or not, but there must be many more like her out there, who really dont want to pay or cant afford, but it costs them more in the long run.
Had I not resurected this it would have been eventually replaced out of frustration. 😳
I simple job that became much bigger than it should have.

A case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing 😀

Had a job a few years back on a Bosch S/L D/W which was apparently sticking on the program. I knocked on the door, it opened but before I could walk in the customer blocked the way and started to explain…

‘I had a look at the machine myself before you came…now i’ve got both pumps here on the floor and they seem fine, the wiring harness i’ve got on the bench in the garage and all the wires seem ok so do you think it might be the timer….I’ve got it here in this box if you’d like to test it?’ 😯

Needless to say I beat a retreat and offered him Appliance Care’s phone number 😆

The link shown by Martin seems very much like it, funny though they didnt tell her to rip out all the wires and bend the timer though?
I must have missed the bit about removing the duct pipe and leave out also. Somepeople are ever so helpfull.
