    Hi,

My parents gas cooker is about to give up the ghost.
Trouble is, the space for a replacement is proving difficult to fill.

The dimensions on the cooker need to be 50w x 50d x 90h cm.

Plenty of 50x60x90, but obviously, these will stick out from under the worktop.

Can anyone point me to any gas cookers that fit this bill, ideally with a lid/cutout feature as they are getting on a bit.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alan

50cm deep cookers finished a long long time ago. either the 50cm deep worktops and units need changing to accomodate the 60cm depth or you accept that a 60cm deep is going to stand proud.

Cannonare probably about the best out there and it will probably be a name that your parents will know and trust. There are three models which are 50cm with lid Langdale, Keswick and the Coniston.

If they live a flat then the cooker will need to have the safety cut out on the hob known as a flame failure device, in which case the Connemara would be the one to go for.

Even if they don`t live in a flat this may be a safer option anyway 😉

They’re only rebadged indesits now though arent they, you would probably save money by buying the cheaper indesit version.

    Hi wsts

We have Indesit and Cannon in stock and I must say the Cannon is a much better built and the finish is superior. I did look at the Indesit range but they don`t produce a 50cm lidded gas cooker which the OP requested.

Not sure how the cannon is much better quality as they’re made in 5he same factory unless its a single cavity indesit you have in, another version of the cannon is of course the hotpoints which I believe are cheaper, truth is though that none of them are that good really, my main bit of advice would be just to stay away from any 500mm single cavity cooker.

I was comparing the Cannon Langdale twin cavity @ £339 to the Indesit KD3G2WG twin cavity @ £239. The doors shut with a nice “thunk” as opposed to a “ting”, the pan supports appear to be thicker and the edges on the cabinet are nowhere near as sharp. The control knobs run smoother as well.

I was merely going by the OP request of a 50cm wide cooker in gas with lid 😉

ferraris are made with fiat parts, and aston martins have ford mondeo bits in them.

Its more down to the specificaition – Just cos its made in the same facotry doesnt mean:

A cheaper cooker is built to the same quality as a more expensive one and vice versa.

QC is down to the the employees and the companys directives. the cannons are now made in poland by skilled and well trained employees meaning the QC on Indesit cookers is as good as a cannon but the actual build quality of the appliance will be only as good as the materials used for that batch and the specification of the design of the appliance.

Cannons are built with thicker metals and better quality components hence they work better and last longer.

And lets face it in the cooker world a 50cm cooker is either made by hotpoint (indesit, h/p, cannon) zanussi (elux zanussi aeg and bendix) beko (beko leisure new world and belling) or a really poor quality independant factory (frigidaire, micromark etc)
