ParticipantHi,
We have a Bosch WAE24162GB/3 washing machine and the heater element appears to stay on the whole time, any ideas why?
things we have thought of are:
Thermostat faulty?
Relay on heater, is there one?
it seems to progress through a cycle ok
Cheers

Do you have to unplug the machine to get the heater to stop or does it stop when the programme ends ?

Hi,
We have just had another look at the machine, it goes through the cycle ok ish, the heater stays on constantly for the first part of the cycle and then goes off at the point the cycle that the first drain kicks in, this is as far as we let it run
we have tried unplugging the Thermostat (we believe it is the small pin connector on the heater element?) this makes the heater come on constantly as soon as a cycle is selected, even when the cycle has not been started.
we are thinking that the thermostat is not faulty to the point that it is open circuit yet but it is not giving a true temperature reading?
Cheers

Oh and we tried it on a 30 degree wash and the water was a lot hotter than that when it drained

Hi: The temperature sensor (Thermistor) is the small unit mounted through the back of the element as you said. It’s not impossible that the Thermistor is faulty, but unfortunately from your description of the fault it sounds more like a control panel fault than a Thermistor problem. Unless 1 of my colleagues on the forum can give us more of an insight into this particular machine.

It’ll be a shame if it is, all is good apart from that, do you think it will be worth looking at if for dry joints if it is the problem or will it be a total right off?
Cheers

How good are you with a Multimeter & Soldering iron ? Try tracing the wiring from the thermistor back to the board & where it connects to the PCB check to make sure it’s got a good connection, do the same at the thermistor end as well.

Thanks, I will have a go, is there a way of checking the thermistor? do you know what the resistance should be for certain temperatures?
Cheers
