We have a hair and beauty salon and the Hotpoint tumble dryer we have doesnt seem to be man enough for the job. I am looking to replace it but need to find something that wont need replacing every 12 months or less. It must be a condensing type and has to fit under a normal height worksurface. Ideally we need a slightly larger than domestic capacity, but the most important thing is that it must be able to run almost constantly during nromal working hours. Can anyone recommend an appropriate machine that doesnt cost the earth? I have checked a commercial site and been quoted £900 which is too much for our budget.

Try a Miele, that’s about the only one in the UK that will come close to coping with this sort of heavy use to be honest but even then the domestic one’s aren’t guaranteed for commercial use.

One question, the equipment you use for your business, hairdryers, trimmers, nail files, scissors etc, are they bog standard domestic hairdryers etc, or better quality professional equipment. The simple answer is you get what you pay for. If you are buying a domestic dryer that lasts you 18 months then just think about how long the £900 commercial machine would last. At a guess I would say ay least 10 years. If you are taking a short term view of your business then buy cheap domestic dryers. If you think that you will still be in business in 10 years time then you should buy equipment that is built for the job.
