ParticipantHi, I’m in need of a washing machine that’s able to handle 20-25 washing loads a week (2-3 hour washes a time on current Samsung washing machine). Even my £1100 Samsung washing machine (now 3 years old) is requiring repairing a lot now (under warranty but getting annoying 2 weeks at a time with no washer).
Could you recommend any that will last? Would I be best with a semi commercial one? Looked at Cater Wash machine but couldn’t find where to then pay to extend the warranty like with domestic and general etcThanks

ModeratorThe only machines that will cope with that use are the semi commercial Whirlpool top loading washing machines like this one . These are favoured by the Americans and Australians among others.
For = large 15kg load, quick washes circa 1 hour and will take a large duvet.
Against = no heater so you need to have hot water readily available and due to the large capacity you also need to have a two inch waste fitted.
Overall been around for a long time and in use in a multiple of settings.

ParticipantThanks I looked at top loaders however I don’t have hot water supply, Cater Wash is 18kg and seem to sell all the parts if something went wrong but never heard of them before.

ModeratorI have to admit I do not know anything about them, but if you are happy with the appliance type and service options after the guarantee then go for it.
Just check you have enough space as it’s much bigger than the usual washing machines.

Moderatorthink the caterwash machines are whirlpool built but all the spares come through caterparts and they over charge for them in my opinion

ModeratorThe Electrolux WE170P is a front load commercial appliance with a two year warranty but it does require a hot and cold fill. It could be worth investigating the option of a hot water feed. You could then look again at the Maytag and Whirlpool option.
The only other option I can see is to keep purchasing domestic appliances run them into the ground and buy another. I don’t altogether agree with this option as it’s too costly in the long run and not eco friendly.

ParticipantSome of the new bosch models have a 5yr warranty. Ebac machines have a 7yr warranty.

Sadly both freestanding washers with this option are both out of stock with a lead time of 11-16 weeks. The five year guarantee will not cover commercial use. The poster needs approx 20-25 washes per week, the average domestic use being about three loads per week. When I have questioned the warranty with them in the past they have said no warranty on commercial use.

The Ebac guarantee is also only for domestic use.
Over the years more and more businesses are using domestic appliances due to the price of commercial products, manufactrurers have now got wise to this and have acted accordingly.

ParticipantIt’s hard as I just do a lot of washing a lot more than an average family, no manufacturer has questioned me before but time will come however I do have a disabled child.

How can it be commercial use if they are using it in a residential home? Actually the poster didn’t say if it was in a residential home, maybe it is indeed at a business address. I can understand if they refuse to repair if the repairman arrives and finds out the address is actually a restaurant or something. Would it not be an option to transfer the machine via a vehicle to a residential address if it becomes faulty so they can pretend it is just a residential machine used by a large family?
P.S what size machine are you using? Many brands make 11.5kg/12kg models nowadays, this would reduce the number of cycles you do and therefore prolong the lifespan.

ParticipantI’m just a normal family, it’s in my home. I just do a lot of washes because of disabilities, current machine is 10kg.

I would get this 10kg ebac if i were you: https://www.ebac.com/washing-machines/e-care-10kg-cold-fill
If you sign up to their mailing list you can get 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off which makes it £645. It will likely last longer than any non-miele consumer machine. Miele don’t make consumer machines bigger than 9kg.

Domestic average use is 2-3 loads per week ,150 odd loads per year multiply by the average life of a washing machine nowadays of seven years equals 1050.Our OP is 20-25 per week!! So after 42 weeks of use the machine is effectively seven years old in terms of use. Would you as a manufacturer want to guarantee that domestic machine?

Machines are getting clever and can display to the engineer how many cycles and which ones have been used most. Engineers are also very clever at spotting these sort of things as well.
A good article here explains usage very nicely.
