Heavy Lifting

What do you lot use for loading washing machines into a van on your own? At present I just use brute force and plenty of ignorance but have been toying with ideas such as a ramp, a wheelchair lift or even some type of mini home made fork lift truck. I have a Ford Courier van. ❓

Push the green button at the back and the rear suspension drops to the floor – marvellous. Just walk in with stuff.

Not only is it difficult to load a washing machine onto a van on your own sometimes, but getting it in and out of doorways, steps and stairs is just as tricky.

This type of sack truck is best suited to all these problems and because it has a high frame you can lean it backwards against your vans loading platform and simply slide it on. (But first of all you will need to duck tape pieces of carpet to the metal upright bars for protection and ease of sliding it up and in, the rubber lined bars are a nuisance and need covering 😉 )

We use central heating tubular lagging (foam material), its excellent and doesnt get grubby.

Thanks Martin, the only snag with your method is that the appliance would end up in the van on its side, which can damage certain models if the transit screws are not in place. If it’s a dishwasher you also end up with a flooded van 🙄
