ParticipantHello fellas. Great site BTW. I recently bought this bosch SGS4012GB dishwasher for £40

It works great and is in very good condition. Feels more solid and is heavier than my old Indesit D3000.

That lasted 17years and only broke once. I’ve still got it, but it’s looking pretty tatty so i replaced it with this bosch.
I was going to buy another Indesit, but after reading on here, i took the advice of you guys and decided not to. I think my indesit was one of those where the quality of the parts were better quality than today’s dishwashers. It had metal rotors and i was slightly disappointed that the bosch has plastic ones. I chose this Bosch because it is one of the older versions, so built in Germany, and it doesn’t have any of the Electronics or rinse aid/salt sensors, so there is much less to go wrong.
What i wanted to know is, is this particular Bosch dishwasher reliable? What is the most common failure points about it?
How old is it? I’m guessing about 7 years.
Is this Bosch better quality than today’s Bosch Dishwashers?
Was my old indesit classed as a good dishwashers in it’s day, or was i just lucky to get a good un?May 2, 2009 at 4:56 pm #285601iadom

If you post up the FD number plus serial number which is etched into the top inside lip of the stainless steel door we can date it.
A vastly superior machine to the Indesit which have never been classed as ‘good’ appliances. Years ago known as cheap & cheerful, now just cheap. 😥
The Bosch may be nearly as old as your Indesit. 😉

September 1998.
Main problems are due to user misuse causing the internal pipework to become gunged up. Be sure to rinse the dishes well, before loading them into the machine. A dishwasher cleaner now and again will help.
Drain pump blockages can occur but can easily be cleared in most cases as the drain pump impellor is accesible via a small cover inside the sump.
Access to base components is not that simple.
Overall a very good piece of kit. 8)
