I’d appreciate some pointers on where to buy a relay please. I have a very old Derby fridge and I have confirmed the start relay is knackered but can only find what looks like a direct replacement from China. I’m sure there must be an alternate? My start relay does not have any capacitor or overload in it, just a relay which attaches directly onto the compressor with two socket contacts. I cant manage to upload a photo so i’ll explain what it looks like. It’s a small black relay with a visible copper coil manufactured by Klixon. It has one spade connection and two sockets which push onto the compressor start and run connections (the common connection is via the thermal overload) Looks similar to this but with less connections: [h=1]Compressor Start Relay 117U6001[/h]
    Any help appreciated.

    Nick.

Putting the compressor model number on here might give us a better idea of the relay in question, but there are universal relays available from Supco their PO230 will fit compressors from 1/12 to 1/2 horse power, push on no overload and one terminal for the neutral supply.

Thank you Tony, I’ve had a look at that relay and ordered one. Solid state switching has got to be much better than mechanical relays. The issue with the old relay was that the contacts were completely burnt away. That said, it had worked for many years but I would guess that a Chinese replacement wouldn’t be the same quality. My compressor is a 175 watt so this should be able to cope easily.
    Thanks again for the info.

    Nick.
