ParticipantHi everyone
We have a brand new Hoover washing machine (delivered on the 30th May).
My husband pumbed in the machine (cold water only) as he has every other machine we have had.
The machine works fine, but lets water in the empty drum when the machine is not in use. If you dont notice it for a few days it actually gets that full that water comes out the open door!
This also seems erratic, it can go a couple of days without doing it and you think it has fixed itself, then you look the next day and the water is back.
I rang Hoover whose first comments were ‘Who fitted the machine? You d o know that if is an installation error, we will charge you!’ Well, my husband assures me that it is nothing he has done, the hose is not kinked, it is in a U shape and he has tightened it up, just in case.
Any ideas before I have to book time off work for them to come out?
Many thanks in advance.
Sharon

There are two ways water can enter machine when not in use;
1) the cold valve inside the machine is staying open slightly.
2) water is running back from sink.
turn off cold supply valve for a few days, carry on using your sink and see if water stills fills up in your machine.June 19, 2006 at 6:08 pm #179505Martin

You need to make sure that if the drain hose shares the waste coupling under the sink, that there is no chance that dirty sink water can drain back into the machine! Raising the hose will usually cure that problem.
The other possibility is that the water inlet valve within the machine is not shutting off fully and will need Hoover to replace under guarantee.
It is always best to shut off the water stop-cock to the machine when it is not in use of course!

Hi
What type of drain connection have you got , does it go into a stand pipe or a spout from the sink trap. If it fits to the sink trap is the hose fitted so that it goes upwards from spout as high as posible under your work top. Also try turning tap off to machine if machine still fills its your drain connection thats the problem.
hope this helpsMike

Hi all
Thanks for the replies.
The water is clear and not dirty. The machine has an individual waste pipe. And the machine doesnt fill up with water when the main water is turned off.
So it sounds as if the water inlet valve is faulty. Is this common and can it stick, so that sometimes it works and others not?
Cheers
