help, hob igniter switch broken and permanently on!!

HI,
we have just moved into new rented accomodation and i used the igniter switch/button thing on the philips whirlpool gas hob to ignite a ring and it broke off stuck in the on position. now, it continually sparks while the power is switched on. this is very annoying especially when the oven needs to be used and the power needs to be on all the time.

does anyone know how to stop the sparks??

Hi

The hob electrics should be on its own plug that would normally be behind the oven or in the cupboard next to it,the only option is to turn the electric off to the hob or replace the ignition unit,bearing in mind if you go for the turning off option you will need to repair the hob normally before you stop renting unless you have a understanding landord that is.
