ParticipantI’ve got a AEG Lavamat L14850. The door front ring cracked, so I took the whole door off the machine in order to disassemble it and see what parts were needed. When I tried to replace the re-assembled door the plate (part 523D) *behind* the front panel into which the hinge is screwed fell off and dropped to the bottom of the machine! Aaaghh 😡
Clearly I shall need to get at rear of the front panel in order to retrieve and refix that plate, but how do I get that panel off please? Do I need to remove the control panel (510) and bottom drain panel (303A) first, and if so how? Do I need to get the machine out from under the worktop and remove the top panel first???
Help please!

Just unclip the door gasket from the front panel then, using a telescopic magnet wand (most DIY stores and Poundland sell them) retrieve the errant bracket.Easy!

Thanks – fine, up to a point….:-)
I took the rubber seal off, retrieved the plate, re-fixed the door hinge, put the rubber seal back – great so far. BUT…I simply can’t get the wire ‘hoop’ back around the rubber seal, the spring which holds the two ends together is far too strong to be able to pull it apart wide enough to get over the seal (without perhaps about six pairs of hands to hold it all in place!).
Is there any sort of ‘knack’ to the re-assembly please? Would it matter if the ‘hoop’ was left off?

I use a length of stiff wire with a small hook on the end and smear the rim of rubber lightly with Fairy liquid. Put as much of the wire ring on by hand then place the hook under the remainder then pull it over and around until it’s all in place then wiggle the hooked tool out….job done in seconds! Yah! 😉

Interesting – I will bear that in mind in the future.
What I actually did (before I read your response) was to fabricate a small ‘extender bar’ and use it to keep the spring stretched. The ring then became big enough to get much more of it around the rim and the rest could be levered in by a small round-end blade, after which the ‘extender’ was pulled out and the spring contracted.
