Keymaster❓
Can anyone help me.I am trying to fit a new door seal to a Zanussi Nexus washing machine.
The old one came off easy enough!
But I am finding it very difficult – no – impossible to fit the new one.
Is there a technique – a special tool or is it beyond the ken of an amateur and will I have to call in an engineer.
Wife’s very unhappy.
he old seal was working fine – just discoloured and dirty.. but in I plowed regardless and now the washing is piling up!
Help!

All done from the front, through the porthole. Not too bad a job, but once your fingers start to ache, things are not easy.
I assume the circular spring has popped out along with the old seal, if not it may still be on the flange of the tub front. Check that 1st.
The only tip is to lubricate the area of the gasket that pops onto the front with a SMALL amount of washing up liquid. Start at the top and literally pop it on using your thumbs. Don’t try to stretch anything, just take it easy and it should work. If you bought a genuine one, the top of the seal is indicated by ALTO.
Failing that, you may need an engineer.

KeymasterYeah Neale there’s a knack to it as I found out the hard way hen I first did one as well. The easiest way is working cross-handed from the front either top to bottom or vice versa and persevere despite any pain. 😉
If that fails it’s time for someone that has the knack for such a job.

Hi Neale
The trick i use is to put the door seal on and i gather that the spring is the problem. Well get a long flat blade screwdriver at the ready then put the spring on from the top and get it around the sides, now the knack is to put the flat blade to pull the spring down over the bottom of the seal. Hey presto the jobs a good un.Sparkyp

😀 Alex and Kwatt,
Thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate the support.Alex the circular spring has popped off.
How do I get it back on?
Do I put it around the seal first and then try to get the thing on to the drum?
Or do I put it around the flange on the drum first.
Either way it seems almost impossible because when I try to put it on the seal it springs out and I think I’ll need to be Samson to stretch it around the flange and if I do how do I then get the seal under it.
Hmm
Any more advice
Best wishes
Neale

Well what I would do is first get some selotape, an empty loo roll and some epoxy glue. Oh yes not forgetting the blow torch. Make some sort of christmas decoration and put it where your applience should be. Throw the zanussi into the thames, run around the christmas decoration whilst completely naked repeating the chant, Santas gonna bring me a new white appppppllllliiieeennnsssssseee!!!!!!!, at least ten times. By this time you should either be#
A: completely nackered and can’t be bothered any more, bite the bullet and buy a new one
B: completely off your rocker
C: You never know it could work! -
