My Tecnik TKD-701 dishwasher has broken down. The repair man said he thinks it needs a new motor. I know it would normally be a better idea to buy a new one, but I’m moving house next week and so I’m looking for the cheapest way of getting the existing machine going again.

My repair man has had difficulty finding the part, and my web search hasn’t helped. Can anybody tell me where I could get a motor for this dishwasher, please? I need one quickly as I move in a week. The repair man told me the machine won’t actually have been made by Tecnik, and I’m hoping the experts on here will know who made it and be able to point me towards the right part.

Very many thanks for any help.

what worries me here is the word “THINK” that means he is not sure and if you buy a motor and it does not work thats an expensive mistake

what symptoms is the dishwaher showing ?

checked my sources this must be quite old and is built by Fagor.
Cant see motor but the parts i can veiw most seem to be obsolete

    Hi Dave,

    Many thanks for helping.

When I turn it on it will drain, but it won’t run a cycle. There’s a low humming sound, and the bloke said the motor wasn’t running. He thought there might be a bit of food caught in it, but when he managed to get to it with his hand he said he could turn something (I’m sorry to be so clueless), and that told him it wasn’t jammed.

Can you take the motor off and take a few pix? Could be the same or similar to something else.

if motor is free to turn
there is a component in most dishwashers and tumbledryers called a capacitor.if this component fails it will give the symptoms you describe it is cheap and easily available. if your engineer knows his job he should know this and possible have a test one to try in his van if it does not work when new cap fitted then motor windings gone new motor time

if the motor is jammed it can either be, a blockage which can be removed, or a bearing failure which means you need a new motor

    hope this helps

May be jumping to judgement here, but thsi repair man sounds like either a fool or a knave.

There is a test you can do. Not on the machine, but on the repair man : ask him to power the thing up to the point it hums and then ask him to do the “blockage” test (turn the pump paddles) with his fingers. If he’s a fool he’ll attempt it. If he’s a knave he’ll admit that would be foolish (his fingers will do the job of the starter and send the paddle whirling – and his fingers with it!)

It’s a Fagor made semi-integrated dishwasher that must be ten years old if it’s a day. 😉

Wash pump, the last time I checked a few years ago was about £100 or so. Whether it’s even still available or not I don’t know.

However, I don’t know if this will apply, but it fooled a lot of people into thinking there was a fault or blockage when it was only some grease build up.

Re: Help! Need motor for Tecnik TKD-701 dishwasher

Many thanks to all of you for helping. It’s much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I think I may have spent a lot of money I didn’t need to spend 🙁 I was in a real rush to try to solve the problem because I’m moving house (I hope) next Friday and didn’t want to leave a broken machine. The repairman didn’t initially ring back as promised re: a new motor, but when I rang him back he told me he’d have to wait until next Tuesday to hear from his spares source re: whether he could get one or not, and that even if there was a new motor available he might not be able to get it in time to install pre my move.

I therefore looked online for a used semi-integrated machine, and (miraculously!) managed to find one just 10 minutes from where I live via a website called PreLoved. I paid £140 for it, and was told it had never been used as it hadn’t fitted into the owner’s kitchen. As it was Saturday I didn’t try to ring the repair man but spoke to my neighbour, who is very helpful and very handy. He installed it for me last night, and it’s working.

Significantly, he told me that there was no problem in taking the old one out–I watched him do it, and all he did was lift and pull–and said that the repair man had not undone the screws where the old machine was fixed to the cupboard 🙁 It seems he simply hadn’t wanted the job, but for some reason he didn’t just tell me that. Now from what you all say it sounds as though there might have been a quick and cheap fix. I’m pretty disgusted with the repair man. I found him through Which Local and used him because 5 people said how good he was.

Well the good news is that I now have a working DW to leave behind, which is a great relief. The bad news is that I might not have had to spend £140, which I could well do with for the expenses of moving. On the other hand, my neighbour was a star and wouldn’t take any money for helping, and so it could have been a lot worse. Had I not found the used machine I’d have had to buy a new one, and I wouldn’t have thought of asking my neighbour if he could install it.

Thanks again to all of you for your help. I’m not an idiot in every aspect of life (honest!), but it’s easy for people to take advantage of me in relation to this sort of thing because I’m one of those women who just doesn’t know anything about domestic applicances, and since I don’t proceed on the basis that people are lying to me it didn’t occur to me to check whether the bloke had actually unscrewed the machine. I wish my repair man had been helpful and straightforward like you.

May I suggest you use this site in future to find a reliable local engineer who knows what they are doing
