ParticipantOur dishwasher (Whirlpool ADP 962/3 WHM) is giving me a hard time. What happens is the following: 1/ When powering on the dishwasher, the powerlight is on, but the washer does not start. Instead there is a noise coming from the bottom of the dishwasher. It sounds like a pump or motor; but its a very suppressed sound, not loud but constant. Otherwise there are no indications; all seems OK, but it does not wash.
2. On the 2nd occasion it stopped during a wish cycle; power light started flashing. After powering off and than on via the power button (remain pressed for 5 seconds), the unit refused to start and landed into the same syplthoms as described above under 1. Only difference now is that the washer is now full of water. The sound of the motor/pump from the bottom of the washer is identical as well.
Any ideas what is wrong? This was a trouble free washer until now, its about 7 years old, and we are really happy with it. Would be a shame to have to buy a new one…
Thanks,

It sounds like the classis NTC fault to me 😉
Use the search here:

Select the dishwasher forum from the drop down then search for “NTC” (without the quotes), pick out the Whirlpool and Diplomat threads, that should help 🙂

Not sure about that Dave, if I’m reading it right the dishwasher is full of water. It should abort and empty on any error. Blockage is my guess.

Thanks for the comments / support; I think DP’s suggestion is close to the core of the problem. I have moved the washer from its position and powered it on; it started with the “motor”noise (or humming if you like), and after a second or 2, “klick”, and it started pumping the water out…. all is ok again. My guess is indeed that there is intermittent problem with the pump, or that its dirty and needs cleaning. Is it a sign that the pump is failing soon? Any suggestion what I should do? Its working now, but I expect it to come back…..
Thanks,

Faulty pump at worst or something in the pump at best.
Power off if you’re going to have a look yourself.DP
