ParticipantI have a Hotpoint TCM65A tumble dryer which is 6 years old, and has always worked perfectly – until a few weeks ago.
The dryer would not heat up, so we called out a repairman who replaced the thermostats, and again, the dryer was working great
I put a load of washing in it today to dry, and again, there was no heat. I have just been out and bought some new thermostats, and replaced them myself, and again the dryer is working fine.
The problem is, it is making a terrible grinding noise when drying the clothes (kind of metal on metal noise). Can you advise on what this may be, and how easy it is to fix?
Many Thanks

If the stats have failed that soon then there is an underlying problem.
The condensor should be kept as clean as possible, you should not stop the dryer in the middle of a cycle and as your machine is contrlled by an electronic module that may have failed causing the heater to stay on all the time. Module is well over £70. 😥
The noise could be any number of things, jockey pulleys, rear drum bearing collapsed, loose motor fan etc. A loose rear motor fan would also cause early stat failure.

if the engineer has replaced the stats he should have also checked for fluff clogging on your filters, the general clearness of the airways, and cleanliness of the condensing unit. are you able to you tell us if that had taken place?
