    Hi all,
I’m hoping that a kind soul here can help me.
I ‘inherited’ a Whirlpool fridge/freezer when I bought my house. It’s about 7 years old.

    It’s an S20D RSS33A/G and the Service Codes are 8586 158 15020 and 110427018566.

It worked OK for a while, but then started to behave oddly.

Occasionally, the front panel display shows — — where the temperatures should be, and a warning triangle is displayed. This is accompanied by a bleeping audible warning. If I switch the unit off at the wall, wait 10sec and switch it back on, it works normally again, the temperature display returns instantly back to normal. This has happened a number of times now, but sometimes it’ll work fine for a couple of months between incidents.

In an effort to sort it out, I ordered the ‘repair kit’ for the back control board, and changed all the C’s. This hasn’t cleared the problem up, I’m afraid.

It’s been suggested to me that I should defrost it – even though it’s a frost-free unit (!?). So today I’ve emptied the freezer and left it switched off for a few hours. I then unscrewed the covers to the freezer elements and there’s no frost or ice on them. I’ve now switched it back on and it’s busy cooling itself back down again.

Any suggestions – or should I just throw the damn thing away!

Have you tried to find the error code ?

1,turn the power off for 40 seconds ,
2 then turn it back on ,
3 wait about 5/10 seconds for the display to show
4 open the freezer door and push the light switch 3 times within 10 seconds then close the door.

Doing this will start the error checking program,
07 will show in the window where the freezer temp should be,
it will then slowly count down to 00.

If it finds a problem it will flash that code , it might flash 02 which could be the motorised air valve or rear circuit board.
At least it points you in the right direction. The list of codes are on this website , while this is going on the fridge temp window will show 0 which is normal.

To cancel the error checking just push the light 3 more times or leave for 1 hour

Many thanks – I’d seen the list of error codes but didn’t know how to access them. I’ll give it a go.

Are the error codes retained in memory – ie, can I do this now even though the fridge has been turned off and on again?

I tried the procedure, but it doesn’t go into error checking mode. I think this is because it’s a 2005 vintage model – your instructions are for 2006 onwards.

Do you know how to get a 2005 model to do this?

    TIA

Temperature inside the freezer is greater than -11?C

Multiple causes for this error code. Usually however it will be a fault with the evaporator fan, compressor fan or the compressor itself.

Sure, but I’m confused by the fact that it apparently recovers back to normal instantly by just switching it off and on again. The temp can’t drop instantly!
Or are you saying it’s a stored fault code thats telling me the temperature has been greater than -11 at some time in the past?
